“BREAKING: Presidency to spend N5billion to impeach Akwa Ibom State Speaker. IG of Police to be instructed to escort 5 APC members to the STHA in order to forcefully achieve this tomorrow. Goal is also to impeach Governor after a new speaker has been imposed.” – Deji Adeyanju went on in one of his Facebook rants.
All over the world today, activism is under serious attack by the enemies of democracy.
The small men and women who wouldn’t survive being challenged or asked questions.
They would rather hide under the pretense of ‘giving respect where it is due’ all in a silly bid to prevent being called out.
Why?
Because their balls are too small.
Can you hear me? Why don’t you grow some balls, tiny D.?
Student Union Government completely crippled. The students do not even know what their rights are anymore.
Little wonder our school system keeps deteriorating by the minute.
The consequence of this silence also trails them even after they have left the four walls of the University.
By this time, they have lost both the willingness and the strength to express themselves and voice out their disagreements.
Activists are strugglers. I have not in a long while seen a youth who is as energetic and dogged like Deji Adeyanju.
Without Deji, the injustice done to the Shiite Islamic group wouldn’t have received the visibility it deserves.
Without Deji, perhaps the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Nnamdi Kanu
Would have upon his reappearance canvassed more followers than he had done in the past.
Without Deji and a few Nigerians who are like him, perhaps we may not have known the extent to which our soldiers were being massacred by the Boko Haram.
He and others like him made the video evidence public.
It is true that the military said they held the numbers to their chests pending when they had contacted the next of kin of the deceased.
A claim which on face value sounds reasonable, but could also be doubted on the premise that we have in the time past been lied to by the authorities as per the number of Nigerian citizens who lost their lives in one unfortunate event or the other.
It is either the Journalists in Nigeria are afraid of the government or they have been greatly compromised.
Apart from Premium Times who in a few selected cases have shown how fearless and true Journalism should be, I must say that the rest of the media houses are gradually turning into a bore.
Needless to say, every functional society needs a ‘Deji’(s).
Every functional society also needs activists who would get their facts straight.
Journalists who would get their facts straight.
Can we not let hatred cloud our thoughts and push us to a conclusion even before we know the situation?
Deji Adeyanju is an intelligent young man with a lot of fire in his bones and zeal to get the society working again.
But can he see how uneducated he looks when he talks without facts?
I am all in for calling out bad leadership.
But if you are going to talk shit about anyone, make sure you have your facts straight.
