Yesterday, saw the NASS/FG display shame, unnecessary drama, abuse and toxicity of power once again. The Department of Social Security(DSS) barricaded the National Assembly complex. They Prevented Lawmakers and staff of NASS from entering their offices. Stating that the order to barricade came from above. “We need more guns, send us more guns,” the officer, who wore no name tag, was heard shouting openly as National Assembly staff and journalists at the gate watched.
The Senator representing Ekiti South constituency, Sen. Biodun Olujimi, hinted at what may have caused the pandemonium. She said, “We had information that the APC senators were meeting, we decided to beat them to their game.” In APC’s defense, Sen. Magnus Abe said they only had APC caucus meeting, and as such didn’t see why PDP Lawmakers would overreact.
The Vice President Prof Yemi Osibajo condemned the takeover, he said “The unauthorized takeover of the NASS complex today is a gross violation of the rule of law and all acceptable notions of law and order. Persons within the law enforcement apparatus who participated in this travesty will be identified and subjected to disciplinary action.”
We have all listened to the different accounts of yesterday’s event from the two opposition parties, amidst the noise and attempt to exonerate self by all parties involved, one thing cannot be ruled out. Lawal Daura, the recently sacked DSS DG didn’t act solo. And like DSS said, the order came from above.
