Misplaced Priorities; POTUS, America is not safe

Today is the 313th day of the year 2018, this is also the 307th mass shooting in America this year. In 2015, there were 372 mass shootings, 2016 had a total number of 384 shootings.

“It’s a horrific scene in there,” Ventura County Sheriff Geoff Dean said. “There’s blood everywhere.”

America yet again witnessed another mass shooting last night.

The shooting started late Wednesday at the Borderline Bar & Grill, where hundreds of people gathered for a college county night.

The sheriff said the gunman first shot a security guard standing outside, and then “stepped inside, turned to the right, shot several other security and employees and began opening fire inside the nightclub.”

12 people were killed in the attack. one of the victims is a 29-year Veteran of the police department with a wife and son, who had intentions of retiring next year.

“He was hard-working, he was totally committed, he gave his all and, tonight, as I told his wife, he died a hero,” an emotional Dean said. “He gave his life to save other people.”

As usual, “there was some discussion about whether the suspect Ian David Young, suffers from post-traumatic stress disorder”, Dean said.

He was accessed by a mental health specialist and was ultimately cleared.

The weapon the suspect used was legally purchased.

President Trump paid tributes to the victims, he praised the “bravery shown by police”.

The recent shooting has once again resurrected the debate on gun control.

While campaigning for the midterm elections, both the Democrats and the Republicans shared their views about where they stood on gun control. Obviously, it was one point the voters needed in other to decide who to vote for.

Trump, while showing his support for his party members during one of his rallies, advised the voters not to vote for a particular democrat because “she would take away their gun rights”.

No matter how those in support of gun ownership would want to lay the blame on the ‘mental state of the shooter’ while trying to protect the second amendment, the fact still remains that a mentally ill person who does not have access to guns, would not go about shooting people.

Even after the midterm elections, Trump has not stopped stoking fear about the migrant caravan. At some point, it became the main basis for his campaign. He called the approaching caravan “an invasion”.

“The Democrats want to open borders,” Trump kept saying at his rallies. “we are not going to let them”.

Is this not a misplaced priority?

America isn’t even safe, and Trump is busy doing all he could to prevent people who would want to seek asylum in the U.S.

You can be in a club, and get shot. You can be in a temple and get shot. You can be in a public rally and get shot. Scary.

Why?

Because of the second amendment of the United States Constitution. Because everyone has the right to all kinds of riffles.

And this is the same country Trump prevents people from coming into?

Dear POTUS, America cannot be FIRST if it is not SAFE.
