TINUBU DECIDES

“Good morning my dear Lagosians, I thank you all for your affection and support. Today is the day, let us all go out peacefully and vote in the #LagosAPCPrimaries Thank You.” Sanwo-Olu Tweeted this morning. A man endorsed by the ruling party’s national leader, Bola Tinubu.

Tinubu’s endorsement ended weeks of speculation about where he stood on the stand-off between him and the incumbent Governor, Akinwumi Ambode. He said he turned his back on Ambode because he deviated from the blueprint of his brainchild, Lagos State.

Governor Ambode during his Press conference went on a vicious personal attack. He questioned Sanwo-Olu’s credibility. He took the fight right to their camp. As I watched, I saw a man whose hand had been reduced to one card. He had tried to make amends with the ‘God Father’, he tried to talk to his Boss’ boss, that didn’t seem to work out well for him. He was down to his last card, and he played it. He had to.

A similar fate would have befallen Ambode’s predecessor, except he was more popular amongst the people.

How can one man decide what happens in a state of over 21 million people?

What is happening today, is nothing close to direct primaries. APC members are not the ones deciding, Tinubu is.
