OKAY, I CAN’T KEEP IT A SECRET ANYMORE. I LOVE OCASIO.

Her campaign video began with her saying “Women like me aren’t supposed to run for office.” At 28 years old, Ocasio-Cortez ran her campaign with a relatively low budget and remained steadfastly and unapologetically liberal. On June 26, 2018, Alexandria Ocasio challenged and defeated the Democratic Caucus Chair, Joe Crowley, in the Democratic primary.

“I knew that if we were going to win, the way that progressives win on an unapologetic message is by expanding the electorate. That’s the only way that we can win strategically. It’s not by rushing to the center. It’s not by trying to win spending all of our energy winning over those who have other opinions. It’s by expanding the electorate, speaking to those that feel disenchanted, dejected, cynical about our politics, and letting them know that we’re fighting for them.” She said while explaining her strategy.

She is unconventional, and this is what we need in today’s Politics. This is 2018, we cannot continue to run for elections like it is the 80’s. No doubt money is a key factor when running for an electoral office, but we do not need a lot of it. Ocasio proved this when her campaign spent $194,000 as against the Crowley campaign’s $3.4 million. But this is not the only reason I like Ocasio. When I watch her speak, I don’t just see a confident woman, I also see a young woman who is both scared and excited at the same time.

She may not have a full grasp of the Economy like her critics’ debate, she may not have a lot of years’ experience in politics, but hey isn’t that one of the problems we currently have in governance all over the world? People come with enthusiasm, canvassing for votes and when they are elected, they either pursue their selfish interests or they get comfortable in the office and forget why they were voted in.
